Faridkot, July 24 (Alexander D’Souza): Leaders of various employee and pensioner organizations have adopted a firm stance against the anti-people and repressive policies of the Modi government at the Centre and the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab. The leaders clearly stated that the voices of those fighting for their rights cannot be suppressed by government repression. They warned the ruling parties and advised them to immediately desist from such policies.
In a joint statement, Ranjit Singh Ranwan (State President, Punjab Subordinate Services Federation), Surinder Kumar Puari (General Secretary), Jagdish Singh Chahal (State President, Punjab Pensioners Union – ATU), Prem Chawla (General Secretary), and Powercom Pensioners Union leaders Radhe Shyam, Chamkaur Singh Birmi, Narinder Bal, and Chand Singh Dod accused the Bhagwant Mann government of consistently ignoring the legitimate demands of employees and pensioners.
State-level ‘Mega Rally’ in Chandigarh on August 7:
Employee leaders announced that a massive state-level mega rally is being organized by the ‘Joint Coordination Committee’ on August 7 at Anaj Mandi, Sector 39, Chandigarh, to give a befitting reply to the government’s anti-employee policies.
“Thousands of employees and pensioners from all districts of Punjab will gather at this rally to express their resentment against the government. Preparations are in full swing at the Punjab and Chandigarh levels to make this protest a success”: Employees’ Joint Front.
Key Demands:-
Immediate release of the 18% Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears due to employees and pensioners.
Unconditional restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
Regularization of all employees currently working without a salary or honorarium at the earliest. Allegation of Misleading the Court:
The leaders accused the Bhagwant Mann government of evading the fulfillment of pending demands and attempting to mislead the Punjab and Haryana High Court by presenting arguments that are hostile to the interests of employees. They warned that if the government does not resolve these demands soon, the Aam Aadmi Party will face severe repercussions in the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
Strong Condemnation of Police Lathi-charge:
The leaders strongly condemned the police brutality and lathi-charges inflicted upon sanitation workers in Barnala, MGNREGA laborers in Khanna, and students and youth at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. They demanded immediate legal action against the guilty police officers.
Furthermore, the leaders stated that the ruling parties in Delhi and Punjab should stop shedding crocodile tears to mask their failures. Additionally, the organizations announced their full support for the state-wide rally and strike organized by the ‘Pensioners Joint Front’ in Sangrur on July 29, involving sanitation workers, electricity department employees, and MGNREGA laborers.
