Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): With a firm resolve to completely rid the district of Tuberculosis (TB), Deputy Commissioner Madam Poonamdeep Kaur has taken a significant step. During a special meeting held under her chairmanship, government departments, industrial units, and social service organizations were brought together and assigned specific responsibilities for the eradication of TB.
Organizations to ‘Adopt’ Patients: The Administration’s New Strategy—During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner made a heartfelt and administrative appeal, calling upon all stakeholders to ‘adopt’ TB patients. She clarified that medication alone is not sufficient; rather, patients are in dire need of nutritional support and continuous monitoring.

Government Facilities and the ‘Nikshay Mitra’ Scheme—District TB Officer Dr. Leena Chopra Bhalla provided detailed information regarding the symptoms of the disease and its prevention. She informed the attendees that TB testing and treatment are available completely free of cost at government hospitals.
Meanwhile, State Program Officer Dr. Jaskirat Singh shed light on the Central Government’s ‘Nikshay Mitra’ scheme, explaining how ordinary citizens and organizations can become a part of this campaign by donating towards the nutritional needs of patients. Key Features of the Campaign:
Priority Focus: Nutritional Support — Patients will be provided with regular kits of nutritious food throughout the course of their treatment.
Regular Follow-up: NGOs and industrial units will conduct regular monitoring of the patients’ health.
Awareness: People will be sensitized about the disease at both the village and block levels.
