Faridkot, June 28 (Alexander D’Souza): Fulfilling the promise to make Punjab a drug-free, healthy state and a leader in sports culture, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government achieved another major milestone today. Launching the initiative at the state level from Chandbaja village in Faridkot, the Chief Minister dedicated 500 modern rural gyms to the public across Punjab.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that today marks a historic day for Punjab’s youth and the sports fraternity. The opening of these state-of-the-art gyms will further bolster the government’s ‘War against Drugs’ campaign and channel the energy of the youth in a positive direction.
Major projects and budget for sports development:
The Chief Minister shared that, for the first time in Punjab’s history, a record budget of ₹1,791 crore has been allocated specifically for the sports sector. Outlining the government’s upcoming targets, he mentioned: 3,000 modern rural gyms—3,000 state-of-the-art rural gyms are being constructed in the state at a cost of approximately ₹200 crore. 3,100 playgrounds—3,100 playgrounds are being developed across various districts of Punjab, with 250 already dedicated to the public.

Water to be used for agriculture; highlighting another significant eco-friendly initiative, the Chief Minister announced that the Punjab government has launched a major campaign to renovate village ponds. A comprehensive plan for cleaning these ponds is ready. The treated water from these ponds will be utilized for agriculture, thereby reducing reliance on groundwater and promoting sustainable water management.
‘Maavan Dhyan Satkar Yojana’ to Launch on July 1:
Taking a major step towards the economic empowerment of women, Bhagwant Singh Mann announced the launch of the ‘Maavan Dhyan Satkar Yojana’ starting July 1. Under this scheme, eligible women over the age of 18 will receive a notification regarding financial assistance directly on their mobile phones, and the funds will be transferred straight to their bank accounts.

Women of all other categories | ₹1,000 per month
Note: Women already receiving social security pensions will also be eligible to avail the benefits of this scheme.
Budget and Impact: Approximately 97% of the state’s women will directly benefit from this scheme. The government has already allocated a budget of ₹9,300 crore for its successful implementation. Several prominent personalities and dignitaries, including Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, were present at this grand and historic event.
