Faridkot, April 7 (Alexander D’Souza): A significant high-level virtual meeting of the Association of Indian Health Sciences Universities (AIHSU) concluded with the objective of providing a new direction to the country’s health education and research. Hosted by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), the meeting was presided over by AIHSU President and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Rajiv Sood. During the session, medical experts from across the country engaged in intensive deliberations regarding future challenges and improvements in healthcare services.

Addressing the meeting, B.C. Roy Awardee Dr. Rajiv Sood emphasized that the field of medicine now requires unity rather than fragmentation. He stated that strong collaboration among doctors, surgeons, and research scholars is imperative for delivering superior healthcare services. Today, AIHSU has emerged as a powerful platform providing a new direction to medical education at both national and international levels.
Demand for Increased Research Budget and Seat Allocation:
During the meeting, the research projects and skill development courses—worth ₹3.5 crore—being conducted by Baba Farid University received immense appreciation. The experts unanimously urged the government to:
Increase the budgetary allocation for health sciences universities.
Increase the number of seats available for medical and nursing courses.
Improve academic quality by increasing the faculty strength.
Proposed Agreement with the IMA:
To ensure the optimal utilization of resources, a decision was taken to consider signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Medical Association (IMA). This initiative would facilitate the shared utilization of medical resources across both the private and public sectors.
Future Technologies: Emphasis on AI and Telemedicine:
