Leadership Dispute Deepens at Faridkot Grain Market:
-New Committee Dissolved; Democratic Elections to be Held on April 6:
Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): The fierce tussle over the post of President at Faridkot’s New Grain Market has now reached a decisive turning point. During an emergency meeting of Arhtiya (commission agents) held at the Market Committee office, the majority categorically rejected the leadership of the newly appointed President, Bunty Garg. Amidst significant uproar and heated debate, the Patron, Varinder Kumar Bansal ‘Bindri’, dissolved the existing committee and announced fresh elections.
Meeting Begins with Tribute to the Late ‘Bhushi’:
The atmosphere of the meeting turned emotional when all the Arhtiya recalled the services rendered by the market’s former President, the late Kulbhushan Rai ‘Bhushi’. A tribute was paid to his memory through a two-minute silence observed for the peace of his soul. Speaking in unison, the Arhtiya stated that the market once again requires an experienced leader-one who can carry everyone along-much like Bhushi Ji.
Allegations of Violating Democratic Values:
The Arhtiya present at the meeting raised strong objections regarding the selection of Bunty Garg. They alleged that the election was not conducted in a democratic manner; rather, the decision was taken behind closed doors in the company of a select few favorites. They further claimed that the selection for the post was made by completely disregarding the unity and spirit of brotherhood within the market.
Patron Takes a Firm Stand: “A Committee Formed Through Unethical Means is Unacceptable”
The market’s Patron, Varinder Kumar Bansal ‘Bindri’, expressed his objection in strong terms, stating that declaring him as Patron in his absence-while simultaneously electing oneself as President-was completely unethical. He clarified that, for him, the mutual brotherhood within the market holds far greater importance than any official position. Consequently, he announced the dissolution of the controversial committee with immediate effect.
