Faridkot, June 20 (Alexander D’Souza): The ‘zero tolerance’ campaign against criminals-initiated by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make the state crime-free and spearheaded by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav-achieved a major breakthrough when Faridkot Police, acting swiftly, arrested two active members of the Arsh Dalla gang with illegal foreign-made weapons. This prompt police action thwarted a plot to commit a major crime in the area. The entire operation was carried out under the guidance of IG (Faridkot Range) Nilambari Jagdale and SSP (Faridkot) Gurbans Singh Bains. How the accused were nabbed during a checkpoint operation: According to reports, on June 16, a police team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gurbachan Singh was conducting checks near a bridge on the link road connecting village Panjgrain Kalan to village Dhilwan. Two youths standing there attempted to flee upon seeing the official police vehicle. Displaying alertness, the police team surrounded and apprehended both individuals on suspicion. A search of their possession led to the recovery of a significant quantity of foreign-made weapons, including: one foreign-made .30 bore pistol (Beretta) with two live rounds, and one foreign-made 9mm pistol (Glock) with two live rounds. The arrested individuals have been identified as Upjinder Singh alias Gagna (resident of village Panjgrain Kalan, Faridkot) and Talwinder Singh alias Happy (resident of village Karamgarh, district Barnala). Police have brought an incarcerated associate on a production warrant; preliminary interrogation revealed that both arrested accused are directly linked to the Arsh Dalla gang. They were in constant contact with gangster Navjot Singh alias Neetu, who is currently lodged in Central Jail, Faridkot. Acting swiftly, the police have taken Neetu into custody on a production warrant and initiated intensive interrogation, which is expected to yield further startling revelations in the coming days. According to the police, a case (Case No. 137) has been registered against the accused under the Arms Act at the Sadar Kotkapura police station. It is noteworthy that both the arrested accused and Neetu-who is currently incarcerated-have prior criminal records; a total of seven serious cases, including charges under the Arms Act and for drug trafficking, are registered against each of them. As part of the ongoing campaign against criminals, the Faridkot Police recently apprehended two additional smugglers with weapons and narcotics. Details are as follows: Date | Name & Address of Accused | Recoveries | Registered Case (Police Station) | 13 June | Jaspal Singh alias Palu (District Moga) | 101g heroin, one country-made pistol (.32 bore), and two live rounds | City Police Station, Kotkapura | 12 June | Sarup Singh (District Tarn Taran) | One country-made pistol (.32 bore) and three live rounds | City Police Station, Faridkot. Commending the police team: This highly successful and sensitive operation was executed by teams led by CIA Staff In-charge Inspector Amrinder Singh, under the direct supervision of Mr. Jogeshwar Singh Goraya, SP (Investigation), and Mr. Avtar Singh, DSP (Investigation). Senior officials have praised the entire police team for this remarkable success.
Statement by officials: “In all these cases, the backward and forward linkages of the accused-specifically the sources and intended destinations of the weapons and narcotics-are being thoroughly investigated. Following this detailed probe, there is a strong possibility of further major arrests and recoveries in the coming days.”
