Major step towards transparency in fertilizer procurement: Faridkot district selected for ‘pilot project’
-Farmers will now be able to purchase fertilizer via a portal; the department has launched a special campaign to generate ‘Farmer IDs’…

Faridkot, June 11 (Alexander D’Souza): The Government of India has taken a significant initiative to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted supply of fertilizer to farmers in Faridkot district. The government has selected Faridkot district for a pilot project under the ‘Fertilizer Supply Application System’ (FSAS). Under this new project, farmers will be able to purchase fertilizer by registering their requirements directly through the portal.
‘Framework for Fertilizer Sale’ portal to be launched:
Providing details on this, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Kulwant Singh stated that the Government of India is soon launching a new portal named “Framework for Fertilizer Sale.” Its primary objective is to make the process of buying and selling fertilizer more transparent and convenient. The Agriculture Department is conducting continuous training sessions and workshops to raise awareness among farmers and fertilizer dealers about this new system.
Fertilizer to be available via token system:
As part of this initiative, a special workshop was organized for fertilizer dealers from the Kotkapura and Jaito blocks. During the workshop, Kotkapura Block Agriculture Officer Dr. Gurpreet Singh explained the new regulations, stating that farmers must first apply online through the portal to obtain fertilizer.
Once the application is successful, a specific token will be issued to the farmer.
This token will be valid for two days, enabling the farmer to collect the fertilizer from the respective dealer or cooperative society.
‘Farmer ID’ mandatory for purchasing fertilizer:
Dr. Kulwant Singh clarified that possessing a ‘Farmer ID’ is essential for every farmer to apply on the portal. The Agriculture Department is generating these IDs by organizing special camps in villages. Additionally, farmers can personally get their Farmer ID created through cooperative societies or Common Service Centers (CSCs). He also urged fertilizer dealers to encourage the farmers associated with them to obtain their Farmer IDs.
“No shortage of fertilizer will be allowed in the district”
Dr. Girjesh Bhargava, Chief Inspector (Fertilizers), Punjab, attended the workshop and assured all fertilizer dealers that there would be no shortage of fertilizer supplies in the Faridkot district. He stated that if any technical issues arose during the implementation of this new system, they would be resolved immediately.
Attendees at the workshop:
Nodal Officer Dr. Ranbir Singh, Assistant Sugarcane Development Officer (Faridkot) Dr. Gurmaghar Singh, Agricultural Development Officer (District Work, Kotkapura) Dr. Princedeep Singh, and the Agricultural Development Officer (P.P., Kotkapura) were present on this occasion, alongside a large number of fertilizer dealers and prominent citizens from Kotkapura and Jaito Mandi.
