Special Report from Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): ‘World Environment Day’ was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal at Desh Bhagat Pandit Chetan Dev Government College of Education, Faridkot. The college’s Environment Club organized this special event in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) department and other clubs.
MLA S. Gurditt Singh Sekhon (Faridkot constituency) attended the event as the chief guest, while College Principal Dr. Rajesh Mohan presided over the program. On this occasion, the chief guest and college staff launched a ‘Green Campaign’ by planting various types of saplings across the campus.
Caring for saplings is as important as planting them: MLA Sekhon
Addressing the gathering, MLA S. Gurditt Singh Sekhon stated that environmental pollution has become one of the greatest challenges of our time. To combat this, we need not only to plant as many trees as possible but also to ensure their proper care until they mature into full-grown trees. He commended the efforts made by the Principal and the entire staff to keep the college campus green and to promote environmental conservation.
Discussion on the theme: ‘Inspired by Nature, For the Climate, For Our Future’
College Principal Dr. Rajesh Mohan elaborated on the main theme of World Environment Day 2026: ‘Inspired by Nature, For the Climate, For Our Future.’ He explained that the true objective of this theme is to strengthen the fight against climate change through the conservation of natural resources, thereby securing the future for generations to come.
