Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): The case of alleged fraud and mental harassment of farmers by Primary Agricultural Development Bank Limited has been heated. Farmer leaders have registered a sharp protest against the collusion of bank management and brokers. Considering the seriousness of the case, the higher officials of Chandigarh have constituted a special investigation committee.
Mental and financial harassment of farmers through blank cheques:
Naib Singh Sher Singh Wala, block president of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) made serious allegations against the bank and said that the bank officials have illegally made the farmers sign blank checks. By misusing these cheques, the farmers are not only being harassed financially, but they are also being tortured mentally.
The farmer leader expressed his anger and said that due to these wrong and oppressive policies of the bank, innocent farmers have been forced to go to jail today. Earlier there were cases of fraud by employees of State Bank of India (SBI) and now Krishi Vikas Bank has followed the same path.
Extortion of extortion through brokers:
Naib Singh, while exposing the nexus of the bank and the brokers, said that an alleged broker named ‘Verma’ is active on the behalf of the bank officials. This broker is collecting huge amount of money from gullible farmers under the pretext of passing loan. Union has raised a strong voice against this blind looting and exploitation of farmers.
Chandigarh HQ In Action: High Level Inquiry Committee Constituted:
After heavy protests and complaints from the farmers, the higher officials of Chandigarh have intervened in the matter. A special investigation committee has been formed to probe the collusion of bank officials and brokers in depth.
Representatives on the Committee:
Administration: A representative of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district.
Police: A representative of the SSP office.
Kisan: A representative of the Indian Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur).
This tripartite committee will go to the bottom of the entire scam and expose the culprits.
Distinguished people united in the farmers’ side
During this protest and announcement, a large number of people were present to raise their voices in favor of the farmers. Among them were mainly Block Senior Vice President Lovepreet Singh Chak Sahu, Sardar Gujjar Singh Kauni, and many local dignitaries including Sarpanch Rajwinder Singh. Farmer leaders have made it clear that unless strict action is taken against the culprits and the farmers do not get justice, their struggle will continue.
