Preparations for Census 2027: Three-Day Workshop for Field Trainers Begins in Faridkot; Data Collection to be Conducted in Digital Mode for the First Time—

Faridkot, April 7 (Alexander D’Souza): The Faridkot District Administration has geared up to conduct the country’s next census in a smooth, accurate, and effective manner. Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer, Mrs. Poonamdeep Kaur, the district administration has initiated preparations on a war footing. In this regard, a special three-day training program (held on April 6, 7, and 9) for field trainers commenced at the Ashok Chakra Meeting Hall within the DC Complex.
Special Focus on House Listing:
During the training session, Mr. Harjinder Singh-a Master Trainer from the District Education Department-provided detailed insights into the technical aspects of the census. He emphasized that ‘House Listing’ constitutes the most critical phase of the census exercise. The trainers are tasked with ensuring the accurate identification of households and the precise enumeration of family units. No room for error will be left in the process of filling out the records.
A Historic First-The ‘Self-Enumeration’ Facility:
The upcoming census is set to be historic in several respects. Sharing a significant update, District Coordinator (Census) Mr. Pankaj Kumar stated, “Census 2027 will be conducted entirely in a digital mode. For the first time in history, citizens are being offered the facility of ‘Self-Enumeration’ (self-counting). People will be able to voluntarily register their own details on the designated portal between April 30, 2026, and May 14, 2026.”
The administration has appealed to the general public to participate enthusiastically in this modern process.
Addressing Challenges and the Importance of Accurate Data:
The workshop also featured deliberations on practical difficulties likely to be encountered in the field-such as technical glitches and challenges in establishing contact with residents. The Master Trainers underscored the fact that census data serves as the foundational basis for the government’s future policies and developmental schemes. Therefore, every employee should discharge their duties with utmost honesty and vigilance.
Attendance: Several senior officials and staff members from the Department of Statistics and the Department of Education-including Mr. Gurinder Singh (Additional District Census Officer), Mr. Sandeep Singh (Investigator), and Mrs. Manpreet Kaur (YP)-were present during this training session.
