A 5-day vocational training course on ‘Fabric Painting, Printing, and Tie-Dye’ was successfully organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Faridkot, under the able guidance of In-charge Dr. Rakesh Kumar, with the aim of making girls and women self-reliant. Around 25 students from Faridkot, Kotkapura, Nawa Qila, and Nanaksar Basti participated with great enthusiasm in this special course, which ran from June 1 to June 5, 2026.

At the course inauguration, KVK In-charge Dr. Rakesh Kumar briefed the trainees in detail about the various vocational courses being run by the center. Motivating the women, he stated that such training should not be viewed merely as a hobby or pastime but should be adopted as a means of economic empowerment. He encouraged women to create self-employment opportunities within their own homes so they could become active partners in increasing their family’s income.
Insights provided on the nuances of painting and printing:
Assistant Professor (Home Science) Dr. Karamjit Kaur highlighted the potential of adopting fabric painting, printing, and tie-dye techniques as a profession. She taught the trainees several essential aspects related to the business and the art form, such as:
Proper use of the color wheel. Creating a variety of attractive shades and colors.
Selecting the right fabrics and producing marketable items.
Trainees created attractive designs themselves.
During the training, Dr. Karamjit Kaur and Program Assistant Ms. Navdeep Kaur Sandhu provided practical instruction to the trainees. This included:
Teaching the basics and advanced techniques of block printing, screen printing, and stencil printing.
Demonstrating practical methods for tying and dyeing fabrics.
Enthusiastic after the training, the participants created beautiful and attractive designs on items such as dupattas, shirts, bedsheets, and table covers.

At the conclusion of the course, the participating women and girls expressed great happiness. Thanking KVK Faridkot, they stated that they would certainly utilize the skills and techniques learned here to become self-reliant and increase their income in the future. This training will prove to be a valuable source of employment for them.
