Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): Various organizations affiliated with the AITUC observed a ‘Black Day’ by staging a protest demonstration at the local Shaheed Comrade Amolak Singh Bhawan against the four new labor codes being implemented nationwide by the Central Government starting April 1st. On this occasion, the working class staged a demonstration to express their outrage against the policies of the Central Government.
An Assault on Workers’ Rights: Leaders:
Addressing the protest rally, Prem Chawla (State General Secretary of the Punjab Pensioners Union), Kulwant Singh Chani (District President), and Sukhjinder Singh Tumbarbhan (leader of the Kisan Sabha) stated that the Modi government has abolished 29 labor laws-achieved by workers after a long and arduous struggle-solely to benefit corporate houses. They alleged that the implementation of these four new labor codes would result in the following:
Working hours will be extended; the economic exploitation of workers will intensify; and the democratic rights to organize and to strike will be curtailed.
Participation of Numerous Organizations:
Power Community Pensioner leaders Chand Singh Dod and Harpal Singh Machaki; NREGA Union representatives Veer Singh Kamiana and Gora Pipli; Class IV Union leader Balkar Singh Sahota; PRTC Workers Union leader Harmeet Singh; and Baba Farid University Security Personnel leader Shiv Nath Dardi also addressed the protest gathering. The leaders demanded that these “black laws” be immediately repealed and that the original 29 labor laws be reinstated.
A large number of workers were present on this occasion, including Gurcharan Singh Mann, Principal Gurdeep Kaur Brar, Som Nath Arora, Inderjit Singh Gill, Ramesh Kaushal, Mukhtiar Singh Bhana, Surinder Pal Singh, Rulda Singh, Sukhmander Singh Nawan Kila, Jatinder Singh Jandwala, Nirmal Singh Nimma, Veerpal Kaur Met, and Karamjit Kaur Golewala.
