Government Should Absorb Outsourced Workers onto Departmental Rolls: PSSF 1680 Demands of Powercom and Transco Management…

Faridkot, May 13 (Alexander D’Souza): The Punjab Subordinate Services Federation (PSSF) 1680, Sector 22-B, Chandigarh, has raised a strong voice in support of outsourced workers, launching a protest against the Punjab government and the management of the Electricity Department. The Federation has emphatically demanded that all outsourced employees currently deployed in Powercom and Transco be immediately absorbed onto the departmental rolls (directly under the department’s authority) and that the contract system, which has persisted for years, be abolished forever.
Raising a Voice Against Exploitation:
In a joint statement, the Federation’s State President, Ranjit Singh Ranwan, and State Additional General Secretary, Prem Chawla, stated that workers employed through private agencies have long been victims of economic exploitation. They emphasized that if the management were to absorb these workers directly onto their own rolls, it would not only put an end to this discriminatory contract system but also eliminate the fear of job loss currently haunting the workers.
Key Demands and the Federation’s Stance:
Regarding its demands, the Federation has put forward the following key points:
**Implement a Uniform Policy:** The leaders pointed out that the Powercom management recently made a commendable start by absorbing 5,993 CHB workers onto the departmental rolls. Now, this very policy must be extended to those workers who have been working for the past 15 years—through PESCO and other private agencies—at extremely meager wages.
**Economic Security:** The practice of private companies siphoning off the profits generated by the workers’ hard labor must cease. Workers deserve to receive their rightful dues and justice for the work they perform.
**Need for a Permanent Solution:** The government must formulate a concrete policy for these hardworking individuals so that they may emerge from their current state of mental distress and financial hardship. Warning Tone:
In conclusion, union leaders issued a clear warning that if the government and management do not take prompt cognizance of these demands and arrive at a concrete solution, they will be compelled to further intensify their struggle.
