Vigilance Bureau Launches Major Crackdown on Bribery: Warehouse Inspector at Jaito Mandi Caught Red-Handed Accepting ₹18,000 Bribe…

Chandigarh/Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): As part of the ongoing anti-corruption drive in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau achieved a major breakthrough today by arresting Naresh Kumar Goyal, a Warehouse Inspector posted at Jaito Mandi in Faridkot district, while he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹18,000.
Bribe Demanded in Exchange for Lifting Wheat Stock:
Providing details, an official spokesperson for the Vigilance Bureau stated that this action was initiated following a complaint filed by an Arhati (commission agent) from village Ghaniya. The complainant alleged that Inspector Naresh Kumar was demanding ₹18,500 from him in exchange for purchasing and lifting the harvested crop. The accused had threatened that if the bribe was not paid, he would create hurdles in the lifting of the upcoming wheat crop. Accused of Harassing Farmers and Commission Agents: According to the complainant, the said Inspector would frequently and deliberately find faults with the crops brought in by farmers solely to extort bribes. Fed up with this corruption, the commission agent approached the Vigilance Bureau, Ferozepur Range.
Arrested After a Trap Was Laid:
After verifying the complaint, the Vigilance team laid a trap and, in the presence of two official witnesses, apprehended Naresh Kumar Goyal on the spot with ₹18,000 in cash.
Further Action:
A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Police Station, Ferozepur.
A comprehensive investigation into the matter is underway to ascertain whether anyone else is involved in this racket.
