-Deep Concern Expressed Over the Disparity in AQI Levels Between Punjab and Foreign Countries…
Faridkot/ Kotkapura, June 7 (Alexander D’Souza): “If we do not improve air pollution levels—specifically the Air Quality Index (AQI)-in time and make environmental conservation a part of our daily routine, the future of our coming generations will become completely insecure.” This grave warning was issued by renowned social worker and Press Secretary of the ‘Bhai Ghanhaiya Cancer Roko Seva Society’, Gurinder Singh Mehndiratta, during an awareness seminar held here. The seminar was organized as part of the ‘Gyan Anjunu Summer Camp’ series-conducted for children during summer vacations—at the Zonal Office of the ‘Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle’ on Sikhwala Road. Rising Disease Outbreak Due to Environmental Degradation: Speaking as the keynote speaker, Gurinder Singh Mehndiratta used concrete data and arguments to explain how the continuous deterioration of the environment is allowing terrible diseases to spread, thereby completely disrupting human life. He mentioned that, under the guidance of Society President Gurpreet Singh Chandbaj and with the special support of the ‘Kotkapura Group of Families Brampton’ (Canada), millions of copies of awareness material have been distributed in schools and colleges to foster a healthy society through environmental preservation. Concern Over the Deepening Water Crisis: Expressing deep sorrow, Mehndiratta noted that the people of Punjab-a land once known as the sacred territory of five rivers-are now forced to buy expensive water for drinking. We have ourselves polluted our natural resources. The situation today is such that either the groundwater level has plummeted drastically, or we have left no stone unturned in polluting whatever water remains. On this occasion, he also spoke about rainwater… Emphasis was placed on the urgent need for rainwater harvesting and conserving every single drop of water. A vast disparity exists between the AQI levels abroad and those in Punjab; comparative data was presented to illustrate the dangerous levels of air pollution: Region/Situation | AQI (Air Quality Index) Level | Status | Developed/Developing Countries Restrictions and precautions implemented as soon as it crosses 50 Punjab (Normal Days) Often up to 250 Highly concerning During festivals and stubble-burning days | Exceeds 500  Extremely dangerous and life-threatening. Honoring of prominent figures: During the event, senior society leader Varinderpal Singh Arneja (LIC Advisor) and senior journalist Gurmeet Singh Meeta raised awareness among the audience regarding the serious health hazards caused by air pollution. On this special occasion, Dr. Avnindrapal Singh, Jagmohan Singh, Rajvir Singh, Prabhpreet Singh, and Gaganpreet Singh Dimple honored the keynote speakers-Gurinder Singh Mehendiratta, Varinderpal Singh Arneja, and Gurmeet Singh Meeta—by presenting them with religious books. The seminar concluded with the recitation of a beautiful poem by an environmentalist, highlighting the importance of trees.
