Faridkot: Free HLA Test Camp Proves a Boon for Children Suffering from Thalassemia

-Over 50 Children Undergo Free Screening
-A Special Initiative by Guru Gobind Singh Medical College —-
Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): A special medical camp was organized at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, under the able leadership of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rajiv Sood. The primary objective of this camp was to assist children battling Thalassemia and other severe blood-related disorders. During the camp, free HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) tests—which are typically quite expensive—were conducted for needy children.
Event Made Successful Through the Collaboration of These Organizations:
This humanitarian endeavor was realized through the joint collaboration of the IMA Punjab, the Thalassemia Society Faridkot, and DKMS. Held at the college’s Thalassemia Ward from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the camp saw the registration of over 50 children. These children suffer from rare and severe conditions such as Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anemia, Hemophilia, and Aplastic Anemia.
Experts Charted the Path for Treatment:
Specifically, Dr. Paritosh Garg and Dr. Parminder Pal Singh—who arrived from Fortis Hospital, Gurugram—conducted the examinations at the camp. The doctors not only performed the screenings but also engaged in detailed discussions with the parents, sharing vital information regarding disease management and the precautions to be observed in the future. They emphasized that timely and accurate diagnosis serves as the first step toward effective treatment.
Full Support Extended by the Administrative Team:
The hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr. Neetu, Pediatricians Dr. Varun and Dr. Satpreet, and the Thalassemia Ward’s Sister-in-Charge, Mamta, made significant contributions to this noble cause. Additionally, staff members Sandeep, Gurpreet, and Kiran rendered their services. “The primary objective of such camps is to provide expensive diagnostic tests free of cost to needy children who are unable to undergo screening due to financial constraints. Timely diagnosis will enable the commencement of appropriate treatment for these children.”—Camp Organizer
