Faridkot, June 25 (Alexander D’Souza): Under the ‘Save the Farm Campaign’ (Khet Bachao Abhiyan), farmer awareness camps were organized in various villages of the district by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Faridkot, under the able leadership of In-charge Dr. Rakesh Kumar and with the special cooperation of the Agriculture Department. The primary objective of these camps was to technically educate farmers about modern paddy cultivation, maintaining soil health, and the balanced use of fertilizers.
Discussion on Scientific Farming in Villages Kameana and Ratti Rodi
During the camps held in Kameana and Ratti Rodi villages as part of this campaign, KVK Professor (Horticulture) Dr. Gurdarshan Singh elaborated on modern and scientific methods of paddy cultivation. Agriculture Development Officer Dr. Savita urged farmers to prioritize organic and green manures to maintain soil fertility.
Meanwhile, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) Dr. Pavitra Singh shared important tips regarding the role of organic manure in maintaining soil health and ensuring the balanced use of fertilizers in crops. Training Officer Dr. Rupinder Singh Gill emphasized the importance of soil and water testing, encouraging farmers to apply fertilizers only based on laboratory reports.
Soil Health Camps in Mehmuana and Sher Singh Wala:
In the second phase of the campaign, special camps were organized in the villages of Mehmuana and Sher Singh Wala. Here, Dr. Pavitra Singh explained in detail the importance of the ‘Soil Health Card’ and its proper utilization to the farmers. He stated that using fertilizers based on soil test results not only reduces farming costs but also leads to a significant increase in crop yields. Agriculture Development Officer Dr. Rajveer Singh offered scientific recommendations for successful paddy cultivation, while Agriculture Development Officer Dr. Davinder Singh emphasized the need to maintain soil fertility through the use of green manure. On this occasion, Dr. Sukhdeep Singh provided farmers with detailed information regarding various welfare and subsidy schemes implemented by the Agriculture Department.
Appeal by Agriculture Experts:
At the conclusion of the camp, agriculture experts urged farmers to have their soil and water tested regularly, adopt balanced fertilizer management, and increase their income by utilizing scientific techniques. At the end of the program, the experts addressed the farmers’ queries by providing satisfactory answers to their questions.
