‘Sur-Aangan’ Celebrates International Music Day; Artists Immerse Themselves in Musical Genres; A grand event was organised in collaboration with the Government College of Education, Faridkot; tributes were paid to three legendary figures from the world of music…

Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): With the special support of Desh Bhagat Pandit Chetan Dev Government College of Education, Faridkot, ‘Sur-Aangan’—a leading institution dedicated to music and literature—celebrated ‘International Music Day’ amidst great enthusiasm and an artistic, musical atmosphere. The event was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr. Rajesh Mohan (Conductor of Sur-Aangan and Principal of the Government College of Education) and Prof. Aruna Randev. Following this, students of the institution performed ‘Sur-Aangan Di Dhuni’. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajesh Mohan noted that since 2004, Sur-Aangan has consistently organized World Music Day and various other events, providing young local artists with a platform to showcase their talent.
Event Dedicated to Legendary Figures:
This year’s special event was dedicated to three luminaries from the world of arts: Padma Bhushan Suman Kalyanpur, Padma Vibhushan Asha Bhosle, and Padma Shri Dr. Bashir Badr. The organization held detailed discussions on the invaluable contributions these legends have made to the fields of music and poetry.
A Bouquet of Songs, Ghazals, and Instrumental Melodies – Key Musical Performances:
Saraswati Vandana and Film Songs: Prof. Aruna Randev commenced the proceedings with ‘Saraswati Vandana’, while Mr. Anil Gupta opened with a popular film song. Memorable Vocal Performances:
Veerpal Kaur sang Suman Kalyanpur’s song “Rahe Na Rahe Hum Mehka Karenge,” and senior artist Sarabjit beautifully rendered Asha Bhosle’s ghazal “In Aankhon Ki Masti Ke.” Ghazal Singing:
Principal Harjeet Singh mesmerized the audience by performing Dr. Bashir Badr’s famous composition “Mujhse Bichhadkar Khush Rehte Ho,” while Arsh Kaviya captivated everyone with Jagjit Singh’s ghazal “Hosh Walon Ko Khabar Kya.”
Instrumental Performances:
Dr. Rajesh Mohan, Prof. Pippal Singh, Harshvardhan, and Ritesh paid a musical tribute to legendary artists through their performances on various instruments.
Folk Flavors and Social Themes:
In the second segment of the program, young artist Amanpreet brilliantly presented “Banaras Di Kajri,” a semi-classical music genre dating back nearly 200 years. Additionally, Amanpreet and fellow artists performed the viral social media song “Mehangai Dhaay Khaaye Jaat Hai.” Mr. Raghu Arora and Harpreet Kaur further enlivened the atmosphere by singing Asa Singh Mastana’s evergreen song “Mele Vich Chal Mere Naal Kudie.”
Successful Stage Management and Conclusion:
Towards the end of the event, Dr. Rajesh Mohan brought the music festival to a crescendo by presenting his new composition, “Yeh Kya Ki Raat Hi Ko Koi Khabar Chahiye, Din Mein Bhi Roshni Ko Koi Khabar Chahiye.” Talented artist Manpreet Kaur managed the stage with great ease, while Sahil Tagoria played a pivotal role in the program’s success by providing tabla accompaniment.
