Faridkot, June 16 (Alexander D’Souza): An important review meeting regarding the District Road Safety Committee and the ‘Safe School Vehicle Scheme’ was held today with the aim of curbing road accidents and strictly enforcing traffic rules in the district. Deputy Commissioner Sh. Rahul Chaba presided over this high-level meeting, which was attended by senior officials from various administrative departments related to traffic and road safety.
Immediate challans for rule violations: Deputy Commissioner
While issuing strict directives to officials during the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Sh. Rahul Chaba emphasized the need to ensure that the general public adheres to traffic rules at all costs. He ordered officials to take action against those engaging in unauthorized (illegal) parking in the district.
Crack down on those driving above the prescribed speed limits (overspeeding).
Issue immediate on-the-spot challans for overloaded vehicles.
Additionally, he reviewed safety arrangements for women in government and private buses and examined in detail the police action taken so far in ‘hit-and-run’ cases.
Safety of school children is paramount: ‘Safe School Vehicle Policy’ to be implemented
Placing special emphasis on the safety of school children, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the ‘Safe School Vehicle Policy’ must be fully implemented in every school across the district. He also held serious discussions regarding the periodic health and eye check-ups of school vehicle drivers to ensure there are no lapses in the children’s safety.
“Precious lives are being lost due to road accidents. Therefore, the use of helmets for two-wheeler riders and seat belts for four-wheeler drivers must be made mandatory. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner conducted a detailed review of the functioning of the e-DAR and i-RAD portals, as well as the progress of the cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims.
No respite for rule-breakers: RTO
On this occasion, Regional Transport Officer (RTO) S. Rajinder Singh assured the Deputy Commissioner that a strict drive would be launched against violators of road safety rules in the district. He clarified that special inspections of school buses and vans would be conducted periodically under the ‘Safe School Policy’ to ensure that the safety of children is not compromised.
