Bakr Eid Special: The Sacrifice of Ego and Spiritual Union…

Faridkot, May 28, 2026 (Alexander D’Souza): Eid-ul-Adha celebrated with reverence in Faridkot; prayers offered for peace, tranquility, and mutual harmony across the nation. Today, alongside the rest of the country, the festival of Eid-ul-Adha-also known as Bakr Eid-celebrated in Faridkot with deep reverence and full religious fervor. Members of the Muslim community offered prayers at exactly 7:00 AM at the historic Eidgah located on Circular Road. The entire event concluded in an atmosphere of profound peace and tranquility.
The main morning prayer at the local Eidgah was led by Imam Zahid, with enthusiastic participation from the entire Muslim community of the region. Following the prayers, everyone bowed their heads before God to pray for the nation’s progress, prosperity, and mutual brotherhood.
On this auspicious occasion, a large number of dignitaries from the Muslim community were present, including Haji Dilawar Hussain (President of the Muslim Welfare Society), Hanish Qureshi, Munna Khan Mansuri, Akbar Ali, Mohammad Rashid, and Mohammad Salim. After the conclusion of the prayers, everyone embraced one another to exchange Eid greetings and distributed sweets.
The Eradication of Ego, A Connection with God: Understanding the True Meaning of Sacrifice:
The history of Bakr Eid is intertwined with that great trial and historic sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (Abraham), who-in submission to the Will of God-did not hesitate for even a moment to offer the sacrifice of his most cherished possession: his son, Hazrat Ismail. Viewed from a spiritual perspective, this is not merely a historical event, but rather the greatest spiritual lesson of human life:
The Renunciation of ‘I’ and ‘Mine’: The goat, in essence, symbolizes the ‘ego’ (the voice of ‘I-ness’) hidden within the human being. Until the sense of ‘I’ and ‘Mine’ is completely eradicated from within a person, they cannot attain true spiritual peace.
Allah Accepts the Sentiment: When Hazrat Ibrahim, in obedience to God’s command, raised the knife to sever the neck of his own attachment and ego, Allah accepted this very pure and selfless sentiment; consequently, the sacrifice of the goat was substituted in place of his son.
‘Eid’-The Union of Individual Consciousness with Supreme Consciousness:
“Until the neck of the inner ego is severed, a true spiritual union with the Lord (Rabb) is not possible.”
The true essence of ‘Eid’ is indeed union-the union of the individual soul with the Supreme Soul, the merging of the inner light with the divine, radiant light of the Lord. The world extends its hand to this physical body of flesh and blood; however, when a human being sacrifices their ego, their soul dissolves into the ‘Supreme Consciousness.’
All Streams Lead to a Single Goal; A Message of Unity in Diversity:
On this auspicious occasion, a beautiful and universal message also emerged from the Eidgah: that from birth until death-whether one is a Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Jain, or Buddhist-all these represent distinct paths and streams leading to that one and the same God (Khuda/ Ishwar).
Regardless of which religious path we choose to follow, the ultimate goal and destination for all remains the same: to attain that Supreme Father-the Divine-and to cherish humanity with love.
