Faridkot: ‘Sur-Aangan’ Organizes ‘Sham-e-Firaq’ in Memory of Sunita Kumari

Faridkot, May 11 (Alexander D’Souza): A special literary and musical evening titled ‘Sham-e-Firaq’ was successfully organized by the ‘Sur-Aangan’ organization at the local Deshbhakt Pandit Chetan Dev Government College of Education. This program was dedicated to the sweet memories of Mrs. Sunita Kumari. Mohammed Fayyaz Farooqui graced this dignified gathering as the Chief Guest.
Commencement with the Lighting of the Lamp:
The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, joined by Principal Dr. Rajesh Mohan, renowned poet Prof. Gurtej Koharwala, Mr. Vijay Vivek, Musawwir Firozpuria, and journalist Amit Kaviya. All the dignitaries paid their floral tributes to Mrs. Sunita Kumari by offering flowers before her portrait. During this emotional moment, music teacher Sukhwinder Sarang fondly recalled Sunita Ji’s affectionate demeanor towards her students.
Melodious Waves of Music and Captivating Performances:
The event witnessed a unique blend of classical and light music:
Instrumental Performances: Talented artists Harshvardhan, Madhav Arora, and their companions presented the ‘Sur-Aangan Dhun’ (Melody). Meanwhile, S. Satpal Gilotra—who had traveled specially from Haryana—mesmerized the audience by weaving the melodious strains of *Raga Yaman Kalyan* and the song ‘Do Pal Behija Mere Kol Ve’ on the Sitar.
Vocal Performances: Arsh Kaviya lent his voice to ‘Mahiya Manu Yaad Aavanda,’ while Principal Harjit Singh performed Dr. Rajesh Mohan’s Ghazal, ‘Jiski Manzil Thi Jahan Par.’ Dushyant Kaviya presented Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s immortal composition, ‘Gulon Mein Rang Bhar.’ Special Highlights: Sarabjit Sanwali captivated the audience by singing the *Mehfil’s* title song, ‘Shaam-e-Firaaq Ab Na Pooch,’ while Prof. Aruna Randev moved everyone deeply with a song dedicated to Mother’s Day.
**The Mushaira Leaves an Indelible Impression**
The second phase of the program featured a magnificent *Mushaira* (poetic symposium), expertly anchored by Dr. Rajesh Mohan. During this session, Musawwar Ferozepuri, Vijay Vivek, and Gurtej Koharwala paid tribute through their exquisite poetry. The Urdu verses recited by the *Mehfil’s* President, Mohammad Farooqui, garnered immense applause from the audience. One couplet of his, in particular, became a subject of widespread discussion:
‘We stand at the crossroads of every vice; in this world of sin, we stand—armed with our *Ghazals*.’
**Distinguished Presence:**
At the conclusion of the program, Dr. Rajesh Mohan expressed his gratitude to everyone through his own *Ghazals*. The accompanying artists on stage included Sahil Tagoria (Tabla), and Ritesh Roni and Dushyant (Guitar). Several dignitaries graced the occasion with their presence, including District Language Officer Manjit Puri, Prof. Dalbir Singh, Prof. Gursewak Singh, Dr. Nirmal Kaushik, Raghu Arora, and Kulwinder Singh. The stage proceedings were skillfully anchored by Daljit Saaz in his signature poetic style.
