Kotkapura/Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): With the objective of encouraging the youth to engage in sports and reviving the sporting culture within the state, the ‘Punjab State Wrestling Championship-2026’ was grandly organized at the local Dr. Hari Singh Sewak School of Eminence. On this occasion, the Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, and the MLA from Faridkot, Gurdit Singh Sekhon, attended as special guests and boosted the morale of the winning athletes by distributing prizes.
This championship was successfully organized by the Baba Farid Wrestling Club, Kotkapura, in collaboration with the District Wrestling Association.
Wrestling: Punjab’s Heritage and Pride – Sandhwan
Arriving as the Chief Guest, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan described wrestling as a sport deeply rooted in the soil of Punjab. He stated that wrestling is not merely a sport, but the pride and heritage game of Punjab. Such state-level events provide both rural and urban youth with a platform from which they can shine on the international stage. Appreciating the club’s organizers, he remarked that there is a need for such events in every district of the state.
Sports Are the Strongest Shield Against Drugs – MLA Sekhon
Addressing the gathering, MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon delivered a message to the youth to stay away from the quagmire of drugs. He emphasized the following points:

Healthy Living: A sporting culture inspires young people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Drug-Free Life: A youth connected to the sports field never falls victim to social evils such as drug addiction.
