‘Our Senior Citizens Are Our Pride’:

-Digital and Financial Awareness Camp Organized in Faridkot
Seniors Taught Strategies to Guard Against Cyber Fraud; -Detailed Information Provided on Government Welfare Schemes—-

Under the directives of the Punjab Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development, a special awareness camp was organized today at the Ravidas Dharamshala in Balbir Basti, Faridkot. Spearheaded by the District Social Security Officer, Mrs. Ratandeep Sandhu, the initiative-conducted under the campaign theme ‘Our Senior Citizens Are Our Pride’-aimed to integrate the elderly into the modern digital ecosystem.
Emphasis on Digital Banking and Security:
Expert officials from the Lead Bank, Faridkot, participated in the camp. They provided the senior citizens in attendance with detailed explanations regarding essential contemporary banking facilities:
Mobile Banking and UPI: Methods for conducting transactions from the comfort of one’s home.
ATM Security: Safe usage of ATM machines and the importance of maintaining PIN confidentiality.
Protection Against Cyber Fraud: Necessary precautions to avoid online scams, along with advice against responding to any suspicious calls or links.
Appeal to Avail Benefits of Government Schemes:
Alongside financial literacy, the officials also disseminated information regarding key public welfare schemes launched by both the Central and State governments. These included, most notably:
1. Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.
2. Atal Pension Yojana and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana.
3. The Punjab Government’s ‘Mata Tripta Mahila Samman’ (Man-Dhatta Satkar) Scheme.
“The elderly are a precious asset to our society. With changing times, it is imperative to connect them with new technologies so that they may become self-reliant and avail the benefits of digital services without any fear. The department will continue to conduct such awareness campaigns in the future as well,” stated Mrs. Ratandeep Sandhu, District Social Security Officer.
Enthusiasm Among Beneficiaries
Appreciating the initiative, the senior citizens attending the camp remarked that, due to a lack of technical knowledge, they often felt apprehensive about engaging in digital transactions; however, following the guidance provided by the experts, they now feel a renewed sense of confidence.
