Faridkot, July 6 (Alexander D’Souza): Thanks to the special efforts of the Punjab government and administrative prudence, there is welcome news for the residents of Faridkot city. The strike by Faridkot Municipal Council’s sanitation workers, which had been ongoing for nearly two weeks (since June 20), has come to a complete end today. Following the Municipal Council’s release of the employees’ outstanding salaries for May and June, the sanitation workers’ unions have announced their decision to fully resume duty starting tomorrow, Tuesday.
Satisfactory resolution reached through dialogue: Chairman Gagandeep Dhaliwal
Briefing the press on this significant decision, Gagandeep Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman of the Faridkot Improvement Trust, stated that continuous contact was maintained with administrative officials and sanitation workers’ unions to ensure that city residents faced no inconvenience regarding cleanliness and sanitation services. A satisfactory solution to the issue has been reached through mutual dialogue and understanding. He further added that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is fully committed to fulfilling every legitimate demand of the employees and providing excellent civic amenities to the general public.
Work stalled since June 20; relief follows salary disbursement:
Providing details on the matter, Mr. Amrit Lal, Executive Officer (EO) of the Faridkot Municipal Council, explained that the sanitation workers employed by the council had been on strike since June 20 over their demands. The administration has now released their outstanding salaries for two months (May and June) into their accounts. Upon receiving their salaries, the employees withdrew the strike and pledged to return to work with full dedication starting tomorrow. Special sanitation drive on a ‘war footing’ across all wards:
The city’s sanitation system had completely collapsed due to the strike that had been ongoing for nearly two weeks, resulting in piles of garbage accumulating in various locations. The Municipal Council has geared up to clear this backlog immediately.
Launch of a massive campaign: Executive Officer (EO) Amrit Lal and Chairman Dhaliwal clarified that the return of the staff would revitalize the sanitation system. A special sanitation drive will be conducted on a war footing across all wards to clean up areas affected by the strike.
Work based on priority:
Under this campaign, all pending tasks will be completed on a priority basis to restore the city to its former clean and beautiful state as quickly as possible.
