Faridkot, May 18 (Alexander D’Souza): Under the leadership of Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Singla, the Faridkot Health Department organized a special awareness camp dedicated to ‘World Hypertension Day.’ On this special occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Singla—along with other senior health officials—released an awareness pamphlet regarding hypertension (high blood pressure) to educate the public about this condition.
Elevated Blood Pressure is Dangerous: Dr. Ramandeep Singla
Addressing the attendees at the camp, Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Singla stated that it is absolutely crucial for every individual to get their blood pressure checked periodically and to keep it under control. He issued a warning, emphasizing that elevated blood pressure can prove to be extremely dangerous for one’s health. Ignoring this condition can lead to severe and life-threatening complications such as kidney disease, vision impairment, silent heart attacks, and paralysis.
Key Suggestions from the Expert: Lifestyle Improvements Are Essential
Dr. Singla shared several important tips for preventing and controlling blood pressure:
Dietary Control: Minimize the consumption of salt, sugar, fried foods, and fast food in your diet.
Weight and Habits: Keep your body weight under control. Completely abstain from smoking and alcohol consumption.
Strict Instructions Regarding Medication: Never discontinue your blood pressure medication on your own without consulting a doctor. Instead of falling prey to superstitions and quacks, always seek the advice of a qualified doctor.
Physical Activity: Walk or exercise for 30 to 40 minutes daily. Cultivate the habit of walking or cycling to reduce reliance on motor vehicles. Turn to yoga and meditation to alleviate mental stress.
**Poor Lifestyle Habits Are the Primary Cause; Free Treatment Available at Government Centers**
Shedding light on the causes of the ailment, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Mandeep Kaur stated that irregular sleep patterns, poor dietary habits, and a lack of physical activity are the primary factors contributing to high blood pressure. Sudden headaches, dizziness, or a rapid heartbeat can be its major symptoms.
Sharing a crucial piece of information, she noted that under the government’s Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) program, the testing and treatment of blood pressure and blood sugar are provided completely free of cost at ‘Health and Wellness Centers’ located in villages. For any medical advice, individuals can contact the toll-free helpline number 104.
**Nursing Students’ Exhibition Appreciated:**
At the conclusion of the camp, nursing students organized an exhibition featuring beautifully crafted and highly informative charts related to blood pressure prevention and proper nutrition (a healthy diet). This exhibition was widely appreciated by the Civil Surgeon and all the attendees present at the camp.
**Attendees Present at the Event:**
During this awareness camp, a large number of health workers and local residents were present, including Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Parvjit Singh Gulati, District Vaccination Officer Dr. Husanpal Sidhu, Deputy Mass Media Officer Sudhir Dhir, Dr. Prabhdeep Singh Chawla, Lakhwinder Singh Kaith, Senior Pharmacy Officer Sunil Singla, Sanjeev Singla, Shivjit Singh Sangha, and Facility Manager Veerpal Kaur.
