The In-Laws’ Home Becomes a Stepping Stone to Success: The Inspiring Story of Fazilka DC Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu—-

Fazilka (Alexander D’Souza): It is often said that if one possesses high spirits and receives the support of their family, reaching the pinnacle of success is not an impossible feat. Mrs. Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu (IAS), the current Deputy Commissioner of Fazilka, has proven this adage to be true. Her success is not merely a personal achievement; it serves as a shining example for those families who treat their daughters-in-law with the same love and respect as their own daughters, thereby giving wings to their dreams.
A Journey from the Fields to the IAS:
Born into a land-owning family in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, Amarpreet spent her childhood amidst simplicity and hard work. Despite being engaged in farming and animal husbandry themselves, her parents sowed the seeds of ambition in their daughter’s mind, inspiring her to aspire to greatness. Having completed her early schooling in Chak 6B (Sri Ganganagar) and Abohar, and her higher education in Chandigarh and Delhi, Amarpreet had always harbored a dream of serving the nation.
In-Laws Fulfill the Role of ‘Parents’:
Amarpreet Kaur was married into a family in Ferozepur. It is often believed that a woman’s career comes to a halt after marriage; however, in Amarpreet’s case, her in-laws’ home became her greatest source of strength. “I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found such a supportive family of in-laws-one that embraced my dreams as their own. The entire credit for my success goes to them; they encouraged me at every step of the way, even sending me to cities like Chandigarh and Delhi to pursue coaching for my examinations,” states Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, DC Fazilka.
Challenges and Triumph in the UPSC:
During her preparation phase, she also had to face the taunts and skepticism of society. People often questioned her capabilities and doubted her chances of success; however, the unwavering mental fortitude provided by her family ensured she never wavered from her path. Ultimately, by clearing the UPSC examination in the 2016 batch, she created history. Prior to this achievement, she had already served in significant administrative capacities, such as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Hoshiarpur and the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in Kapurthala. ‘The People’s Officer’ in the Border District:
During her tenure in a border district like Fazilka, Amarpreet has carved out a distinct identity for herself. During times of flood crises, instead of remaining seated in her office, she personally waded into the waters to lead relief operations. Inspired by this very hands-on approach to work, the region’s younger generation today looks to her for inspiration.
An Empowering Message to Society:
DC Sandhu’s message is clear: stop making distinctions between daughters and daughters-in-law. She firmly believes that a happy and bright future can only be built when society begins to value and respect the dreams of its daughters-in-law.
