Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): Dr. Baljit Kaur, Punjab’s Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minority Welfare, once again demonstrated her compassion and professional expertise today. A massive free eye check-up camp was organized at the Bhagat Ravidas Dharamshala in Balbir Basti, Faridkot, where she served not merely as a minister, but as a specialist doctor, personally examining the eyes of the patients.
Serving Humanity in Collaboration with the Lions Club:
This camp was organized in collaboration with the Lions Club, Sri Muktsar Sahib. The Club’s President stated that they have dedicated this noble endeavor to the sacred memory of his late father. The camp witnessed a massive turnout of elderly and needy individuals, arriving not only from Faridkot but also from the surrounding areas.
Dr. Baljit Kaur’s Message: ‘Timely Check-ups Ensure Prevention’
While examining the patients, Dr. Baljit Kaur raised awareness regarding the health risks associated with modern lifestyles. She noted that in today’s times, ailments such as cataracts and glaucoma are spreading rapidly. She emphasized that if we undergo eye check-ups in a timely manner, severe conditions like blindness can be prevented. The government’s objective is to extend superior healthcare facilities to every household.

Free Medicines and Spectacles: Following the check-ups, hundreds of patients were provided with free medicines and prescription spectacles on the spot.
Free Surgeries: Patients diagnosed with cataracts were identified and shortlisted. Arrangements are being made to provide them with free intraocular lens implants through government initiatives in the near future.
Expert Team: Dr. Baljit Kaur was assisted by a team of specialist doctors and paramedical staff from the Civil Hospital, who also rendered their services during the camp.
Public Applauds the Minister’s Approach:
Patients attending the camp heaped praise upon the Punjab government and Dr. Baljit Kaur for this initiative. People remarked that this was the first time a Cabinet Minister had personally stepped onto the ground to treat the public, much like a doctor.
Several prominent political and social figures from the region were also present on this occasion, and they lauded this joint initiative by the Lions Club and the Minister.
