Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): In the sacred memory of the late Shri Inderjit Singh Khalsa—founder of the renowned religious and educational institution of the Malwa region—the play “Tu Agla Varka Phol” (Turn the Next Page) was successfully staged by ‘Lok Rang Manch Faridkot’ at Baba Farid Public School. Encompassing profound social and historical concerns, this play left the audience deeply moved and shaken.
The Essence of the Play-A Confluence of History and the Future:
Written, directed, and performed by Dr. Sahib Singh-a man of multifaceted personality-the story of this play begins with the Partition of 1947 and traces a journey spanning all the way to the year 2026.
The Main Plot: The play revolves around the tragedy and struggles of a woman who was 15 years old at the time of the 1947 Partition and lives to reach the age of 94 by the year 2026.
Themes: Dr. Sahib Singh portrayed themes of religious fanaticism, communal animosity, and the erosion of humanity with immense sensitivity. The woman’s struggle is beautifully depicted through the various men who appear in her life—her grandfather, husband, son, and grandson.
Key Insights and Message:
During the event, renowned thinker Dr. Davinder Shaifi highlighted the artistic sensibilities of S. Inderjit Singh Khalsa and his visionary outlook toward society. He stated that this play serves as an inspiration for society to walk the path of mutual love, harmony, and humanity. He further remarked that it stands as a significant document in the history of Punjabi theater.
At the conclusion of the play, students and teachers rose to their feet, giving a standing ovation to encourage and applaud the performers.
