Faridkot (Alexander D’Souza): S. Jatinder Singh Shunty (Padma Shri Awardee), a member of the Punjab State and Chandigarh Human Rights Commission, clarified today in Faridkot that the Commission is fully committed to safeguarding human rights within the state, and any violation of a citizen’s fundamental rights will not be tolerated.


During a crucial meeting held at the local District Administrative Complex with officials, NGOs, and Sarpanches, S. Shunty stated that the Commission is establishing 15-member core groups in every district of the state. These groups will include representatives from social service organizations to ensure that victims receive immediate justice at the district level.
Strict Directives Regarding Respect for the Deceased:
Speaking on the functioning of hospitals, he mentioned that the Commission has issued a specific advisory. Henceforth, no hospital will be permitted to withhold a deceased person’s body under the pretext of unpaid bills. If any hospital refuses to release a body, a police case will be registered against it immediately. Additionally, he discussed the ambulance pilot project in detail.
Safety of Sanitation Workers is Essential:
Addressing the rights of sanitation workers, S. Shunty stated that it has been made mandatory for contractors to provide employees with gloves, masks, specialized protective clothing, and insurance coverage.

Responding to queries from the media, he informed the public that complaints can be registered via the WhatsApp number 9855475547 or through the Commission’s website: http://www.pshrc.net. He gave an assurance that action would be taken on every complaint within 48 hours.

Present on this occasion were Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Sandeep Malhotra, SDMs Puneet Sharma (Faridkot), Sukhraj Singh Dhillon (Kotkapura), and Vikramjit Singh (Jaito), Civil Surgeon Dr. Parvjit Singh, along with other senior officials from various departments and representatives from NGOs.
