Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria inaugurates ‘Skill Development Centre’; states; “Skilled youth are the foundation of the nation’s progress”…

Faridkot, June 15 (Alexander D’Souza): Honorable Governor of Punjab, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, formally inaugurated the ‘Skill Development Centre of Excellence’—established by the ‘Sun Foundation’ at the Red Cross Building-during his visit to Faridkot today. Addressing the gathering on this special occasion, the Governor emphasized the importance of skill-based education in the modern era. He stated that making the youth self-reliant and ensuring their contribution to the nation’s progress is the need of the hour.
Centre to prove a boon for self-employment and de-addiction:
In his address, Governor Kataria remarked that this skill centre would prove to be a great boon for youth who miss out on government jobs. Here, young people will be able to receive free training in various vocational courses and start their own self-employment ventures. He expressed full confidence that this unique initiative would be instrumental in reducing the unemployment rate in the state and keeping the younger generation away from the quagmire of drug abuse.
During the main ceremony held at the local cultural centre, the Governor appreciated the ‘Sun Foundation’s’ efforts in the fields of education and social service, and inspired the youth to move forward in life with hard work and discipline.
Mass movement against drugs; drone smuggling to be curbed soon:
Responding to questions from journalists regarding drug prevention during the event, the Governor stated that the government has significantly tightened laws, which has largely curbed the menace. A social mass movement against drugs has now emerged. Addressing the issue of cross-border drug smuggling via drones, he assured that security agencies are fully alert to prevent this and that this challenge will soon be completely brought under control. Sun Foundation’s Fifth Major Initiative in Punjab:
During the ceremony, Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Chairman of the Sun Foundation and Rajya Sabha MP, stated that this center-dedicated to the youth of Faridkot-is the fifth skill development center established by the Foundation in Punjab. Through this center, approximately 1,000 youths will receive completely free skill training annually and be assisted in finding employment opportunities.
