‘World Gatka Day’ Celebrated with Fanfare in Faridkot; Ludhiana Team Wins ‘Heritage Conservation Gatka Cup’… 


Faridkot, June 21 (Alexander D’Souza): Under the aegis of the Gatka Association of Punjab, the Gatka Association (Faridkot District) organized a spectacular ‘Heritage Conservation Gatka Cup’ to mark the annual ‘World Gatka Day’. In this major competition held at the local Old Grain Market, the team from Pratham Sahay Gatka Akhara, Ludhiana, secured the overall first position and claimed the winner’s trophy.
The event concluded successfully under the guidance of Advocate Harjit Singh Grewal, International President of the National Gatka Association, and Harbir Singh Duggal, State President.
Results of the Gatka Exhibition Competition
Narinderpal Singh Paras (District Vice President and National Gatka Coach) and Gurinder Singh Mehendiratta (Press Secretary) provided detailed results of the competition as follows:
First Place: Pratham Sahay Gatka Akhara, Ludhiana.
Second Place: Jathedar Baba Binod Singh Gatka Akhara, Faridkot.
Third Place: Akal Purakh Ki Fauj Gatka Akhara, Kotkapura.
Thrilling ‘Gatka Soti’ Competition:
Players showcased their skills in the highly exciting ‘Gatka Soti’ competition held during the event; the results were as follows:
Kashmir Singh (Kotkapura) – First Place
Sahibpreet Singh (Ludhiana) – Second Place
Navkaran Singh (Faridkot) – Third Place
5 Teams, Including a Girls’ Team, Demonstrate Their Prowess
Talvinder Singh Ferozepur (General Secretary, Gatka Association of Punjab) and Dr. Manjit Singh Dhillon (Punjab Vice President and District President) stated that four boys’ teams and one girls’ team participated in this Gatka Cup, delivering an excellent performance of the traditional martial art. This cup was organized with the special support of Jathedar Baba Binod Singh Gatka Akhara (Faridkot) and Shri Gursevak Singh ‘Bhana Laziz’; a large number of sports enthusiasts and city dignitaries were present to witness the event.

During the event’s closing ceremony, chief guests and dignitaries honored the winners and runners-up with trophies and encouraged them.

Jathedar Baba Satnam Singh Sodhi, Baba Satnam Singh Kar Seva Wale (Jand Sahib Sadiq), Sardar Achhar Singh, National Gatka Coach Shairy Singh Bhambri (Fatehgarh Sahib), Pradeep Singh (Ludhiana), Hardeep Singh, Shahzad Kaur (Faridkot), and Akashdeep Singh, along with several other well-known personalities from the region, were present.
