International Workers’ Day: Employees and Pensioners Raise a Resounding Call to Action in Faridkot
-Massive Motorcycle March Staged Against the Government…
Faridkot, May 1 (Alexander D’Souza): Today, on the occasion of International Labour Day (May Day), a massive crowd of employees and pensioners flooded the streets of Faridkot. Organized under the banner of the Punjab Employees and Pensioners Joint Front (District Faridkot), this massive rally and protest brought the city’s pace to a standstill. Beginning with a tribute to the martyrs of Chicago, this demonstration emerged as a powerful challenge against the government’s ‘pro-corporate’ policies.
Tribute to the Martyrs of Chicago and a Direct Attack on the Government:
During the rally held at the local Darbar Ganj Rest House, employee leaders—Jatinder Kumar, Prem Chawla, Principal Krishan Lal, and Chand Singh Dod—recalled the struggle of Chicago and strongly criticized the policies of current governments.
“Today’s governments have become puppets of corporate houses. The working class, which fought to secure the right to an 8-hour workday, now faces governments conspiring to increase those working hours once again. This constitutes a direct assault on historical achievements,” stated the leaders in a joint statement.
Show of Strength in City Markets-Traffic Comes to a Halt:
Following the rally, the employees staged a massive scooter and motorcycle march through the city to demonstrate their unity.
Route: Starting from Darbar Ganj, the march proceeded through Bhai Ghanaiya Chowk, Thandi Sadak, Huki Wala Chowk, and Jubilee Cinema Chowk.
Road Blockade: Upon reaching the area in front of the Bus Stand, the protesters staged a sit-in on the road, bringing traffic to a complete halt. During this time, the entire locality reverberated with anti-government slogans.
Key Demands—The Joint Front Stands Firm:
The leaders presented their charter of demands to the Punjab government and issued a warning that if these demands are not met promptly, their struggle will intensify further. DA Installments: The 6 pending installments of Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees and pensioners-calculated at a rate of 18%-must be released immediately.
Court Verdict: The judgment delivered by the Honorable High Court on April 8, 2026, must be implemented in full and without any delay.
Restoration of OPS: The Old Pension Scheme (OPS) must be restored immediately to safeguard the future of the employees.
Regularization: Casual workers, ASHA workers, and Mid-Day Meal and Anganwadi workers must be regularized unconditionally.
Prominent Attendees:
A massive number of employees-both men and women-participated in this massive protest demonstration. Prominent figures present included Harpreet Singh, Inderjit Singh Khiwa, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi, Navpreet Singh, Simarjit Singh Brar, Kulwant Singh Chani, Lakhwinder Kaur (Mid-Day Meal Leader), Amarjit Kaur Ran Singh Wala, Sarabjit Kaur Machaki, Veer Inderjit Singh Puri, and Sukhjinder Singh Tumbarbhan (District President of the All India Kisan Sabha).
